The St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition embodies our commitment to the discovery, nurture and promotion of new and emerging musical talent and continues a long history of musical excellence and artistic contribution at the heart of London. With the kind and invaluable support of Making Music, the competition is able to offer winners the opportunity to establish and develop a performance profile throughout the UK.

St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition aims to provide a stepping stone into the performance arena for both newly formed and experienced classical chamber groups. The competition’s winning ensemble will have the opportunity to establish and build its profile on performance platforms across the United Kingdom in a series of concerts with music societies and festivals through Making Music.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to chamber ensembles consisting of 3 to 8 members aged between 18 and 30 years.

Preliminary Round:

The preliminary round is by audition CD. No more than nine ensembles will be chosen from this first round to perform in the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals:

Semi-finals will take place live during the Lunchtime Concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields on 19, 20 and 23 April 2010 at 1.00pm. These concerts are free, non-ticketed events and open to the public.

Final:

No more than three ensembles will be chosen to perform in the final to take place in a live Evening Concert on Tuesday 27 April 2010 at 7.30pm. This is a ticketed, public event.

The Panel:

Finalists will be judged by a panel including world famous composer and musician Mr John Rutter OBE, Mr Oliver Macfarlane head of classical music TV for the BBC, Robin Osterley CEO of Making Music and Dr Andrew Earis Director of Music for St Martin-in-the-Fields.

The Prize:

In addition to a small cash prize, the winning ensemble will be given the opportunity to perform in a series of professional (paid) concerts for festivals and music societies around Britain through the Making Music network. These concerts will be vital opportunities to establish and build the ensemble’s performance profile.
