The Worship and Spirituality Committee (WSC)

The Committee's overall task is "to assist with the provision of worship and the development of Christian Spirituality in St Martin's in the light of our 10-Point Charter and Mission Action Plan commitments".

Pentecost Picnic 2005

The Committee helps with the planning of special services. There are two joint services of the Chinese and English speaking congregations during the year: a combined 10.30 am service for Pentecost and a 6.30 pm service for the Patronal Festival in November. On both occasions different languages are used during the liturgy, in celebration of the diversity of the St Martin's community. The services are followed by a party.

Other special services with which the Committee are involved include Harvest Festival, a service for Healing on the Sunday nearest to the Feast of St Luke and Homelessness Sunday in January.

Amongst its other roles, the Committee is responsible for ensuring that rotas and training are arranged for readers, intercessors, chalice assistants, home communions, evening prayer officiants, vocations exploration and prayer groups. It also engages in a process of 'worship audit' in which the congregations are invited to comment on aspects of the services at St Martin's. It also oversees the publication of a booklet of Advent meditations each year.

The Committee is involved in the promotion of interfaith dialogue. For a number of years St Martin's has had an exchange programme with the West London Synagogue, organised through the Council of Christian and Jews. Members of each community have been invited to attend a service by the other community, followed by discussion and a shared meal.
