Autumn Education Programme 2010

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us.” John 1.14

The Alpha and the Omega – the First and the Last, The Bible Opened for All

How can we understand and truthfully interpret a Bible which has so often been used to exclude and condemn?  A group of inspiring speakers seek to explore if we can discover a Bible which is really open for all.

In this year’s Autumn Education Series we seek to engage deeply with the Christian Scriptures, in the context of our 21st century world and our lives.
Can we discover an inclusive vision of the kingdom where all are welcome irrespective of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and ability? How can we understand and truthfully interpret a Bible which has so often been used to support prejudice, exclude and condemn?  In these lectures a varied and challenging group of speakers seek to engage deeply with the Christian Scriptures, in the context of our 21st century world and lives and grapple with some of the most difficult issues of Biblical interpretation which continue to divide the Church.  All sessions are free and take place in church at 7.00pm.  All are welcome.

Christ Our Light from the Saint John's Bible

Living the Questions

'Living the Questions' is an opportunity to question afresh the core issues of the Christian faith in the company of a number of leading American theologians such as Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan via a 20 minute dvd, and some fellow pilgrims and sceptics in a group discussion.

The poet Rilke speaks about 'loving the questions themselves' as part of our spiritual journey.

Sessions last from 12.15pm-1.45pm on Sundays and you are welcome to eat with the group in the Crypt cafe afterwards.  You are welcome to attend as a one off - and we hope you will want to continue.

This is the second time we are running this course, so we will be beginning with the opening seven sessions this term:

1. An Invitation to Journey - September 19th; 2. Taking the Bible Seriously - October 3rd; 3. Thinking Theologically - October 24th; 4. Stories of Creation - November 7th; 5. Lives of Jesus - November 21st; 6. A Passion for Christ: Paul - December 5th; 7. Out into the World: Challenges facing progressive Christians - December 12th
